SAFEGUARDING HEALTH INSURANCE CLAIMS WITH A REINSTATEMENT POLICY
You are insured voluntarily and want to spend a longer period abroad and not claim any benefits from your health insurance back home. Safeguard you claims with a reinstatement policy.
Reinstatement – what for?
Anyone who terminates their health insurance and goes to a foreign country without a policy may be in for a nasty surprise when they come back. This is because the health insurance companies are not always willing to reinstate people on their return. And reverting to the statutory health insurance scheme is only possi-ble provided certain conditions are met – such as taking up employment again within two months of returning from the job abroad. A reinstatement policy with the statutory health service is a good alternative. It ensures not only that you can return to your health insurance company without any problem: on top of this, while you’re staying abroad you also retain your claims to benefits under the statutory long-term care insurance.
Who can effect a reinstatement policy?
When you are planning to work abroad temporarily, you can effect a reinstatement policy with your health insurance company if you are insured either privately, or voluntarily in one of the statutory health insurance schemes. That means that you stay in the health insurance, paying reduced premiums, and your old policy can be reinstated again later at any time.
